Rescuing, Rehabilitating, and Rehoming Minnesota Pets: Animal Ark

Animal Ark Hastings

Welcome to Featured Rescue Friday, where we highlight an amazing animal rescue. This week we are featuring Animal Ark, a furnomenal organization in Minnesota that is our new referral network partner!

Animal Ark was founded in 1977 and has saved the lives of thousands of animals throughout Minnesota since their inception. In 2017 they facilitated 360 adoptions with a 97.9% live release rate and are a no-kill organization working to make their community a no-kill community.

We embrace and follow a no-kill philosophy in our work to rescue, rehabilitate, & re-home Minnesota’s lost and homeless companion animals every year. We are honored to have the opportunity to serve these amazing animals, their new foster and adoptive families. –Animal Ark

Over the years, Animal Ark has created a number of programs to increase adoptions and decrease the number of animals who enter shelters. These include:

  • Pet retention counseling to help pet owners avoid having to rehome their pets
  • A comprehensive adoption program to market adoptable animals and provide resources to adopters
  • Stray cat help to provide medical care to roaming cats
  • Pet fix certificates to help pet owners get their pets spayed or neutered at a reduced cost
  • Partnerships with other agencies to assist with rescuing and transferring animals for adoption

When asked to share a memorable rescue story, Animal Ark shared the story of Einstein, a dog that others would have considered “unadoptable:”

Einstein was found roaming around the Hastings. He was brought in to us with very little hope of recovery. He was dehydrated, starved and suffered from an acute infection in his mouth. After weeks of medical attention, we were able to surgically remove all his teeth and treat the infection.  We are happy to say he is in a loving home now and doing well! – Amy, Animal Ark

Perhaps one of the coolest things about Animal Ark is the environment they create for the animals in their shelter. Cats are housed in “condos,” built for small, sociable groups of cats and have exterior windows as well as cat trees to provide a home-like environment for them. Dogs get their own roomy kennels complete with a raised cot, chew toys, blankets, and treats along with plenty of time in large outdoor play yards.

We are honored to have the opportunity to serve these amazing animals, their new adoptive families, and the many communities across Minnesota. The passion and dedication of our staff and volunteers is focused on our main mission and goal: to find responsible, loving forever homes for each animal we have the privilege of welcoming through our doors. –Animal Ark
