Instead of focusing on myself this year I\u2019m going to involve my cat in my plans for the future as well. Many of the usual resolutions, like losing weight or being more social, can be translated into a cat\u2019s life as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are five New Year\u2019s Resolutions for me and my cat:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Get moving:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0This is the first time I\u2019ve involved fitness in a New Year\u2019s Resolution, and it will do a lot of good for both of us. Saya is usually lazy because I\u2019m stationary, so if I start trying to be more active in my everyday life I can get her to exercise as well. Getting your cat moving can be as easy as a laser pointer or a mouse toy. Saya loves to play with hair ties and chase those plastic balls that jingle.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/kittens-1534085_1920.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5179 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/kittens-1534085_1920-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"5 Purrfect New Year's Resolutions for Cat Owners\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/kittens-1534085_1920-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/kittens-1534085_1920-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/kittens-1534085_1920-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/kittens-1534085_1920.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Be social:<\/strong><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As loving as my little girl is, she has a hard time when there are visitors at home. If she doesn\u2019t know them very well she heads for the safety of any nook I can\u2019t reach and stays hidden till long after the visitors have gone. It\u2019s no fun for her to be afraid when people come over, but she isn\u2019t used to company. From now on when there\u2019s company I\u2019m going to try to foster some positive interactions between the \u201cstrangers,\u201d and Saya so she can start feeling better about visits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>See a doctor:<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No one likes doctor visits, not even animals. Frightening as they can be for cats, it\u2019s important to have routine examinations with their vet to ensure they are happy and healthy and will continue to be for years to come. If there are issues with your feline friend<\/span><\/span>\u2019s health, it\u2019s better to be aware of them early so steps can be taken quickly to treat them.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cat-691175_1920.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5180 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cat-691175_1920-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"5 Purrfect New Year's Resolutions for Cat Owners\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cat-691175_1920-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cat-691175_1920-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cat-691175_1920-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.sittingforacause.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cat-691175_1920.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Teach tricks:<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spend some time with your cat and teach them how to do something new like a high five, or to sit, or even a long-term \u201ctrick,\u201d like walking on a leash. It\u2019ll create a bonding experience between the two of you and your cat will know something new.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Enrich:<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Something I\u2019ve always wanted to try with my cats is a food puzzle. It appeals to their hunting instincts and it seems like it could be a prideful moment to watch them solve it. Other enrichment toys are cat trees and scratching posts, which also appeal to your cat\u2019s more primal instincts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Year\u2019s Resolutions are important to make, but even more important to keep. Perhaps creating resolutions for your cat as well as yourself will help you keep them because it will help your cat in the long run. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are your New Year\u2019s Resolutions for 2017?
